Mazda Production and Sales Results for August 2008 (Flash Report)

Mazda Motor Corporation’s production and sales results for August 2008 are summarized below.

I. Production

1. Domestic Production
The domestic production volume for August 2008 increased 5.0% compared to August 2007, mainly due to greater production of the Mazda2 (known as the Demio in Japan), Mazda6 (Atenza), and Mazda5 (Premacy).

Mazda6 (Atenza):	10,935 units	(up 73.7% year-on-year)
Mazda5 (Premacy):	5,666 units	(up 29.4% year-on-year)

2. Overseas Production
The overseas production volume for August 2008 increased 1.0% compared to the same month last year, due to brisk sales of the Mazda6.

II. Domestic Sales

The 10.7% decrease in industry demand in Japan impacted on Mazda’s domestic sales volume in August, which decreased 0.5% year-on-year.
Mazda’s registered vehicle market share was 7.2% (up 1.0 points year-on-year), with a 3.6% share (up 0.3 points year-on-year) of the micro-mini segment and a 5.8% total market share (up 0.6 points year-on-year).

The export volume for August 2008 exceeded the volume for the same month last year, up 0.8%, mainly due to increased shipments of the Mazda6, Mazda2, and CX-9.
On market basis, exports to Europe were healthy.
